Flu season and the flu vaccination - October 2025

Flu is a contagious virus that can cause anything from mild illness to serious complications, especially in high-risk groups like young children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with underlying health issues or weakened immune systems.

The flu spreads easily through airborne droplets, especially those released when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through contaminated surfaces. While good hygiene, such as handwashing, covering coughs, and keeping your distance, helps reduce the risk, the flu vaccine remains the most effective way to protect yourself and others, reduce the spread, and lessen the severity of illness.

At CERN, the infirmary offers to administer flu vaccinations on site to MPEs, MPAs, temporary workers, and contractors, provided that they bring their own vaccine and complete a short medical questionnaire. A medical prescription will be issued afterward for reimbursement through a health insurance.

The infirmary is open for vaccination Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

CERN retirees and family members can receive their flu vaccination through their general practitioner or pharmacy in France or Switzerland, with reimbursement handled according to CHIS guidelines.
