Contribution rates are defined in the CHIS Rules. The CERN Council is the sole organ competent to modify the CHIS benefits and contribution rates on the proposal of the Director-General after discussion in the Standing Concertation Committee (CCP). However, certain contributions are indexed annually, according to the evolution of CERN salaries. Changes in the contribution are published on the CHIS website, in the CERN Bulletin and in the Official Communications for the CERN community.

If they have opted for the normal coverage, and receive no income from the Organization nor from the CERN Pension Fund, the contribution is a fixed amount payable every month in advance on the CHIS bank account. The contribution as of January 2024 is 1 272 CHF per month.
If they have opted for the reduced cover, the contribution is a fixed amount payable in advance every month and as of January 2024 is 636 CHF per month.
