October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the aim of promoting screening and prevention of the disease.
Breast cancer affects both women and men with around 2.3 million new cases every year[1].
By increasing awareness about breast cancer, supporting those affected, and raising funds for research, the month-long campaign serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection, education, and continuous progress in the fight against breast cancer.
One of the most effective ways to reduce the impact of breast cancer is early detection. Regular screenings such as mammograms can help identify cancer in its early stages when treatment is most effective. The WHO highlights the importance of regular self-exams for women and men.[2]
The CHIS reimburses mammography examinations at 100% for women from the age of 50 onwards, once every two years (CHIS Rules A II 1.03). Outside of these conditions, the examination is reimbursed according to the General Rule.
