Your Obligations

CHIS Members are invited to contribute actively to the Scheme’s cost-containment policy, through simple actions that help to maintain the financial balance of our Scheme and thus contain the increase in contributions. Indeed, since CHIS is a self-financed system, the level of refunds must not exceed that of contributions. If this happens, an increase in contributions is necessary.

For example, by going to one of the countries of CERN’s Member States (except Denmark, Norway and Switzerland) where medical consultations, medicines, tests, medical images or other outpatient care are the lowest, you will not only combat the increase in CHIS costs but also be better reimbursed because the reimbursement bonus applies.

In addition and in order to keep the health insurance cover of their family members up to date, Main Members are obliged to inform the Organization about any change in family and personal situation and declare any change in the spouse’s gross income by completing the CHIS – Spouse Health Insurance & Professional Income Declaration (SHIPID).
