Breast Cancer Awareness month – October 2026

As October begins, so does Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a moment to raise awareness, promote the importance of regular screening, and support those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

Several risk factors can increase the likelihood of developing breast cancer. Some are non-modifiable, such as age and genetic predisposition, while others are modifiable and can be influenced through healthy lifestyle choices, including maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding smoking, and limiting alcohol consumption.[1]

One important way to support early detection is through regular breast self-examination. Regular checks can help identify changes such as lumps, differences in size or shape, skin changes, or nipple abnormalities, enabling prompt medical consultation. Being aware of any changes can support early detection, while regular clinical examinations and appropriate screening remain essential tools for the early diagnosis of breast cancer.[2]

The CHIS reimburses mammography examinations at 100% for women from the age of 50 onwards, once every two years (CHIS Rules A II 1.03). However, it is never too early to get checked regularly; for Members under 50 years, the examination is reimbursed according to the General Rule.

The following providers are listed in our agreed providers list, where CHIS Members benefit from a tariff agreement:
